About the Author
Mark Lehner is Research Associate at The Oriental Institute, University of Chicago, and the Harvard Semitic Museum. He has been Director of the Giza Plateau Mapping Project since 1984.

The authoritative summary of the pyramid complexes in Egypt

The authoritative summary of basic information about all the pyramids. "The Complete Pyramids" provides detailed descriptions of all the pyramids, not just the most well-known ones. For each pyramid three-dimensional illustrations show its structure and that of the surrounding temple and temenos remains. There are also regional plans that show how the pyramids are situated in Egypt and make it easy to understand the monuments in different districts. In most cases these diagrams are based on actual land and architectural surveys done by the author and his team, and are consequently extremely accurate. The author's expertise, built up over many years of expeditions to Egypt, is reflected in the text which describes the salient and significant features of each pyramid and points out key elements that are unique to particular ones.
A few reviewers have complained about some of the theoretical conclusions in the book, but the sections which deal with theories are actually appendices to the main text, which is mostly or purely factual. Because of the large number of unknowns concerning the pyramids, any theories whatsoever, no matter how good they are, tend to draw fire from all quarters. Lehner has been working in Egypt doing surveying for over 25 years; it is kind of comical when some reviewer who has never even been to Egypt starts criticising his conclusion.

Excellent text on the Egyptian pyramids

Excellent text on the Egyptian pyramids. I've been looking for this one for a long time as a reference text (borrowed it from the university library once) and finally found it at a price I could live with on Amazon. Pyramidiots won't like it, because it's heavy on science and facts but light on conjecture and pseudoscience. Did I say light? That stuff is non-existent. Lehner is probably one of the best authorities on Egyptian pyramids and this is a valuable text for anyone studying Egyptology. The diagrams and bibliography alone are worth the money.
