Awesome Book!

This book was great, and really helpful! I am more of an English and History course kind of girl, and science is usually something I really have to make myself focus on. However this book kept me interested and explained the material in a clear concise way. I never felt that I had to slog through massive amounts of information in order to get to "main idea". I used this book for an online class last semester and it was instrumental in helping me teach myself the material. Definitely one of my favorite science textbooks so far.

A word of advice, it really helps to buy the access to the online website. I would study for my tests by reading the chapter and watching the videos. I got an A in the class thanks to this book!

Easy to Understand

This book is very easy to understand. It maintains interest with contemporary graphics. There are many caption boxes in the margin. At the end of each chapter there is a chapter summary, a list of important terms and many, many exercises to help you learn the material. The downfall with the exercises is that they do not have the answers. There are also many additional study tools available on the books companion website. I needed this book for a college class. I'd also recommend the seller I purchased from. Very, very nice!

Effective at introducing phsyical science concepts

Hard to believe this book was used for college, considering the font, and nature of its writing.

Still, the book is easy to understand, is filled with pictures and charts, and gets the point across.

It seems to be have been written for high schoolers, but that certainly isn't a problem for a college introductory course. I find that sometimes these type of books are more fitting for a difficult subject matter.

Great for understanding the overview and basics of topics. Recommended.

Beautiful Introduction

I find the approach in this book to fuzzy logic interesting, useful, simple, and beautiful. Starting with something like interval numbers is almost certainly the best way to start a fuzzy logic text. It presents a simple example that is very easily understood and allows one to see what differentiates fuzzy logic from other multi-valued logics in an almost intuitive manner.

I have not worked through all of this book. But, while working through the truth table exercises in Chapter 8 I thought 'couldn't I do these on a spreadsheet like Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Works?' With Bojadziev's formulations how to produce truth tables on a spread sheet (I used Microsoft Works) came almost immediately. (The only real exception was that I had to treat fractional truth values, as functions. Expressly, in Works you type =1/2 in the cell.) To paraphrase Betrand Russell (correct this if I have the author wrong), 'a good notation has a certain suggestion to it.'

Since I did this, I noticed some textual errors. p. 164, (g) reads [~p->(q^~q)]->~p proof by contradiction. This is not a tautology. The tautological form, I think, Bojadziev is looking for is either [p->(q^~q)]->~p, or more likely [~p->(q^~q)]->p. Also, on p. 165 p^(p->q) should not read (1 0 1 0, which is q^(p->q) in context), but

0. Additionally, on p. 267 8.5 (a) for p->~q should read

(0 1/2 1 1/2 1 1 1 1 1).

Still, Bojadziev's notation is the most helpful I have seen for fuzzy logic texts. The notation helped me to think of simpler ways to deal with truth tables. This also allowed me to check many different forms of tautologies and see if they are tautologies in other than 2-value logics. For instance, modus tollens is only a quasi-tautology in greater than 2-valued logics (I have investigated up to 11-valued logics, and no doubt, this could be proven for all n-valued crisp logics). Modus ponens is a tautology for n-valued logics, where n is greater than 2 (at least up to an 11-valued logic, and no doubt this can be proven). This suggests, on a logical basis, that falsifiability is not as strong a criterion as verification. Without this book, such insights would have not happened or would have been much harder.

That would take an entire page! Absolutely one of my favorite reads. Now reading it again with my adult grandson (who lives in Europe)....on very long distance calls of over 2 hours.....we read paragraphs back and forth...relate our own "Dandelion WIne" summers. Now we're writing our experiences out and placing the pages between the pages that "take us back"....he is so taken by the story ...he has to continually stop reading because his own memory kicks in....as does mine....I return to the "Blueberry Summers" of my youth....and find the time not so long past.

Good but sad book

The descriptive detail made it seem like you were in the book, could see the same things as the characters, feel the same thing as the characters, smell the same thing as the characters, and taste the same thing thing as the characters. This book is very visual but does not have a sturdy plot line. I would reccomend this book to people 12+ and that like poetry

A dish of lime vanilla ice...

...The trigger phrase for one of the most haunting sub-stories in this work of genius. I haven't read the book in years, but I have just ordered it from Amazon.com.

Gabriel Bernstein has got it. It is perfect. Ray Bradbury is a beautiful writer, whose very reverence for LIFE itself is a joy to behold.

The sheer quality of the reviews for this masterpiece tells you something about the kind of reaction that the average reader has had. It touched them. It reached them, in a way that few things ever do. Transcendent is certainly the word to describe the experience I had with this and other Bradbury books - the breathtakingly original The Halloween Tree being another must-have.

In the section I referred to in the title of this review, a young man meets an elderly lady in an ice cream parlor/store and they are both triggered by the phrase "a dish of lime vanilla ice". The inference is that they are a pair of star-crossed lovers, who either have been a couple in the past (in another life) or will be in the future, in a time when a young boy meets a young girl in a similar setting, and they re-experience this magical, soul-triggering phrase...

As a writer myself, I can appreciate the sheer magic that Bradbury shoe-horns into every paragraph. The warmth, the humanity, the feeling of just being glad to be alive in order to savor every sunrise, every cold winter's morn, the sound of the crickets, the smell of the apple blossom, the rumble of an old Ford, the impossible sweetness of that heart-stopping first kiss...

I live in a small town myself, and ordering books and CDs is a frustrating task. I cannot thank Amazon enough for being my lifeline to so many modern works of genius, such as this and indeed any other book my this true Modern Master.

By the way, Doug Spaulding is a combination of Bradbury's middle name Douglas and his father's surname, Spaulding (his mother was Bradbury).

I simply cannot recommend this highly enough.

wonderful book on money mindset

I heard about this book because it was mentioned by Dave Ramsey, the radio talk show host.

If you enjoy books like the Secret, you will like this one. It is a "wealth mindset" book that discusses your mental attitude toward money, including saving, giving, charity, and all the other issues we face when dealing with money.

If you are under the belief that "money doesn't grow on trees" or heard things like "Do you think I'm made of money?" when you were growing up, you will get a lot out of this book. It totally changed my mindset and thoughts about money and everybody I talk to who has read it has had similar results.

Magical & Achievable!

Excellent advice throughout the book. Explains what you need to know about Quantum Physics and how to achieve the state of being which enables one to create all they desire. The profound truth (and its results) within this book, I achieved 20 years ago. It enabled me to manifest exactly what I desired, instantaneously! As soon as I desired something, it manifested! I was reading "Three Magic Words" by U.S. Andersen during that time and his book excited me to the point of unfaltering belief. Throughout my life, I experienced little miracles and my best friend would always tell me that I "was the luckiest person she knew". Andersen's book verified for me that there was much more to life than what we see; ignited me to the point of total belief and trust in a God unseen; I "let go".

A Happy Pocket Full Of Money is the instruction manual on how to reach that blissful state of creation. If only I had Michael's book
to guide me during that time, I wouldn't have quit! When you reach the state of INSTANT manifestation, it can be a bit frightening. You might question what is happening to you; your family/friends might look at you strangely or think you strange; but don't let it deter you from the magic! Stay with it! You will adjust!

Be sure to include the daily meditation - and you might try group meditation 1-2 times per week which will greatly enhance your own daily meditation. Definitely suggest aiming for a childlike state of belief, joy and bliss and a TOTAL trust in God, Source, Universe; whatever you feel comfortable naming this wonderful power and gift. I gave myself totally over to God and awoke in a state of bliss. My thoughts began manifesting as soon as I thought them. Blew me and my neighbors away! Be prepared for the experience of your lifetime!
It will definitely change your life in the most beautiful way!

Best Book I've Read In Years!!!!

Over the past couple of years I have read a lot of books about the law of attraction, the power of now, the power of feelings etc. All of my previous reads have led me to this awesome book.

In the past I struggled with marrying my spiritual principles with science. This book eloquently does that with ease. I feel very enlightened and am grateful for the guidance this book provides. The section which talks about "I AM" statements hit me in the head like a brick. I get it.

My desire is to be able to tell as many people as I can about this book and how it's made an impact on my life. The message is powerful, absorbable, and a gift to someone like me who knew certain things about my spiritual life but couldn't quite articulate how those things transferred into my physical life.

I have only good things to say about this book: I AM WEALTH, I AM ABUNDANCE, I AM JOY!

"The Golden Age" for the price of steerage

This book should please every lover of the "Era of the Passenger Liner". Packed, wall to wall, with vintage images of the greatest ships to ever embark on ocean travel its a real feast for the eyes. As the title suggests, the focus here is largely on those ships in service from the early Teens to the late Thirties - "The Golden Age". This mode of transport never quite regained its luster after the the Second World War. I know there are certainly some exceptions to that statement but the elegance and mystique that surrounded passenger liner travel would never be the same. Many of today's cruise ships are impressive in their own right but they don't appeal to one's imagination the way a Titanic, Mauretania, Queen Mary or Normandie can. This collection does not attempt a thorough representation of all the ships of the era but rather focuses on the most important ships with an in-depth treatment of each. If you are looking for technical information or extensive history this is not the book to provide it. It is, however, a valuable photographic archive that should appeal to both the serious enthusiast and the casual observer alike.

This book is solidly constructed in a very utilitarian fashion (no frills here). It has the customary, illustrated, glossy covers that are now ubiquitous on books in this price range. All images are, as one would expect, black and white. For the price, this book delivers real value. One very minor quibble - I would have liked to seen them dress up the presentation with a dust jacket. I know they were traveling economy class here but, given the subject matter, a little nod to elegance wouldn't hurt.

Ullmann and Taschen are proving themselves to be the Toyotas of the publishing business. They provide well produced, affordable books on contemporary and traditional topics that don't price-out the working stiff. Without consciously doing so, I find that more and more of my purchases carry their imprints. This is just the latest example.
