I have read this book and it provides a wealth of knowledge. I have always wanted to branch out to Africa to do business and this book offered easy to read material and great guidance how and what to do. I will use this book as a guide and motivation to begin planning to expand my business to Africa. I am a USA citizen and this book has inspired me. I have lived in Durban, South Africa for about three months and I have always wanted to go back and start a business. Now I have some better direction....thanks to this book. what damage one unfair review can do; are Amazon.com reviews useful?

As a non-biologist (nuclear chemist/experimental physicist) I read Dr. Pollack's book with interest, in 2006, and found it relevant to our work - and plausible. However, I made a mistake and read a review, by apparently a fellow Faculty (Alexander Stein), enclosed below.
Reading it - peremptorily, admittedly - I decided not to learn more about biology...
Recently I found out that Dr. Pollack got the highest reward from his fellow Faculty for his research. By the way, it still is very relevant to our research. We do plan to pursue it.
It's true I should have gone deeper into this - but one simply cannot do everything.
The way Amazon manages these reviews is flawed ("the highest and the lowest"). Perhaps there should be a warning that there is a significant probability that some reviews may not be done in good faith.

The flawed review:
"Dr. Pollack is an embarrassment to his field and his University. This book is a collection of old results (from as far back as 50 years ago) that puzzled the world's scientists at the time they were first published. There has been much progress in the intervening decades that Dr. Pollack would do well to read and understand. All of the ancient science upon which..."

Changed My View of Science

During my senior year of bioengineering at ASU, one of my instructors recommended that I read this book. I went on Amazon and purchased a copy. Tragically, I let it sit on my shelf for almost six months without reading it. About a year ago, I picked it up and read it, expecting it to be a labor-intensive read. It was not. Instead, in very simple terms and using simple yet convincing examples, Pollack managed to challenge everything I ever learned in school in two days (It only took two days because I found myself reading this book every chance I got; I coult not put it down).
Challenging even many of the basic tenets of cellular biology-- from even the existance of selective ion channels in the fluid mosaic model of the cell wall to blowing the lid off of what every student is taught in school about the way muscle cells contract--Pollack writes a book that has been and will continue to be challenging, because it challenges the premises of the life-long work of many scientists.
While I'm sure that some of his critiques of the beliefs of the faith of cellular biology today will prove to be wrong, Pollack is not afraid of the challenge or the community backlash against him. I applaud the work. I recommend it as required reading for just about everybody: the writing style makes it accessible for even high school students, but it is not too plebian to challenge even a professor or researcher in the area.

About the Author

Jim Owens has worked and taught in the video and television industry for over 30 years. He has worked on local, regional and national productions. Owens’ international television work has included fourteen Olympic broadcasts and has taken him to over twenty five countries. He is the author of the Video Production Handbook, Television Production, and Television Sports Production (all published by Focal Press), and has had over thirty articles published in television and broadcast magazines in the United States and Europe. He served as the curator of the History of Olympic Broadcasting exhibition at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. Owens is Dean of the School of Communication Arts at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, where he has taught since 1981.

Practical Praying - The rosary is NOT just for Catholics!

Kudos to John Edward for having the bravery to write this book! It is unfortunate that Mr. Edward has to make disclaimers in this book about not endorsing or representing any particular religion, nor is he claiming any special supernatural communications from God or Mary. But this is the climate and culture we live in, where psychics are demonized for claiming what Christ said we would all do. Fortunately, Mr. Edward is able to move past this, and make you feel as if he is talking directly to you the reader.

In the book, John shares some very deep personal experiences from throughout his life that deepened and strengthened his personal relationship with Mary the Mother of Christ: childhood, the period of time that his mother became ill, and adult experiences afterward. Reading this book, you receive an intimate view into John's personal viewpoint of his relationship with God, and how Mary and the rosary plays an important part in that relationship.

He shares the basics of how the Catholic church teaches the rosary, but emphasizes that the words themselves are not so important as your "presence" in the prayer itself, leaving room open for you to put your own intentions into the prayer or use the classic form of meditatation upon the mysteries of Mary's and Jesus' life and passion.

The book also includes a workbook type section with suggestions for exercises to get into a space where you can reflect, and focus on what you want your prayer dialog to be.

Roma Downey prays the entire rosary on the CD, as well as John. There is also a guided meditation on the audio by John that is a preparation for your prayer journey, that is absolutely wonderful.

I'm confident this book will ignite a fire in Catholics like myself who may have let their rosaries gather dust over the years, to pick it back up again. I'm hoping and praying it will inspire non-Catholics to seek out the rosary, as a way to deepen their prayer life also. The included CD will help you to feel like you're not alone in your prayers, as you can pray along with Roma or John until you feel comfortable enough with the prayers, to pray them by yourself.

This is by far, my favorite John Edward book and audio.

I just finished John Edward's New book Practical Praying: Using The Rosary To Enhance Your Life. It is Mr .Edward's most personal book to date.

I feel this book is a gift.

This book is not a religious book, it is a tool to open up a PERSONAL "Prayer dialogue" with god within your own belief system.

I am Catholic, and as a child learning the rosary was very much as John explained it..And Yes I did Chuckle after reading page 27. Learning the rosary was very much like

"just another thing a kid was told to do like eat your vegetables"

If you are Catholic, you will be able to laugh, cry and relate to John's own personal Journey. You will see your childhood written on those pages. We have all had Sister Mary Terror's in our childhood....

But I feel you will be moved even if you are not familar with the rosary. This book is so much more than the historical and religious gift of the rosary...It is a gift of helping ANYONE ( no matter what religious background you came from) connect or reconnect with God.

You can apply Practical Praying to your life without having rosary beads in your hand........And that statement didnt hit me until after I read the book!

My Mom and I had a huge connection with the rosary beads. When I buried her on Good Friday last year and noticed that someone took her beads from the coffin..I gently slipped mine in her hands. I felt lost with out them. When I return home exhausted and sad..I prayed without my rosary beads for the first time....Literally within 5 minutes there was a ring at the door and someone who I appreciate very much send me rosary beads!!!

(I feel my mom heard my prayers) A note inside said they were from Mexico city!! My Mom always spoke about wanting to go to Mexico City!!! Yesterday... I held those rosary beads as I read John's book and reading about John's travel to Mexico City made me feel like My Mom and I were taking the journey together

It hit me after reading this book.....My Mom heard my prayers without the beads in my hands....and throughout this book John speaks about your own Prayer Dialogue. Best John Edward Book yet!

This is truly a wonderful and inspirational book.

In the past, I had not been sure about the authenticity of John Edward. I did, however, believe that he was providing a comfort to those suffering from grief due to the loss of a close loved-one.

So, regardless if he was truly communicating with the spirit of one passed-on or whether he was only communicating from within himself, he was still providing a service to those suffering.

This book is inspirational in that John tells how the Rosary has helped him in the loss of his Mother, Aunt, and Granmother and how it centers him in his work. Now that I have read this book, he has me believing that he is a true blessing.

The book comes with an audio CD which has the rosary spoken by Roma Downey and another version by John Edward. This is truly wonderful.

The fifth generation Camero hit the streets with the ability to remind us of its beginning as a street sports car. The beginning of the muscle car error were fun was had on streets and tracks. Cars were modified to meet this competitive environment at inception and now the fifth generation gives the enthusiast that ability again.

Though this generation of car is filled with the new technology of the time this book has given us the instructions on how to convert it to meet our own unique needs. The author not only tells us what parts are the car are safe to modify for performance but actually gives us step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish these task. Along with these instructions the book is filled with useful color photographs. This is useful even if your just going to add a few aftermarket parts.

The author covers, as mentioned, upgrade instruction on brakes, suspension, rear axles, intake and exhaust, cooling, fuel systems, transmissions, LS engine mods, superchargers, turbochargers, ECM tuning, and aftermarket parts. Helping us get maximum performance out of the new muscle cars despite the government regulations that had destroyed our beloved muscle cars. The fun of modifying and driving your muscle car is back!

Encouraging words when I needed them

I found "Being Black:Zen and the Art of Living with Fearlessness and Grace" to be exactly what the doctor ordered.

The Book is written in a language that is clear,to the point, and easy to understand. Free from the "psycho-babble" that some books on Buddhism tend to be bogged down with, 'Being Black..." is written in such a way that I felt the author empathized with other Black people who find themselves alone on the Buddhist path and in life.

Sharing in the problems we as Black people sometimes face in our family and social settings.Touching on the negative self talk that we sometimes indulge in.Showing how we can be our own worst enemies at times.

Don't get me wrong-anyone and just about everyone can benefit from reading this book, regardless of race or spiritual path.

It teaches,inspires,comforts,and is even entertaining in some parts.

I highly recommend this book to all who are on a spiritual quest to improve their lives.
